Owen and Kathryn had their one year check-up today and they are both doing GREAT! They're hitting/have hit all of the major milestones expected for their age and are growing well. Owen weighed in at 21 lbs, 15 oz. and was 29 1/2 inches long; at birth he was 5 lbs, 4 oz. and 18 inches long. Kathryn weighed in at 25 lbs, 2 oz. and 31 inches long; at birth she was 7 lbs, 2 oz. and 20 inches long. They are staying true to their growth patterns with Owen in the 50th percentile and Kathryn somewhere between the 90th and 97th percentile.
They have both been pulling on their ears so I thought that we might be dealing with their first ear infections, but as it turned out the doctor said their ears looked great and it is teething pain. With teething I've learned to not make any predictions about when they'll cut through, which teeth are coming in and how many are coming in until you can see them. Sometimes it's days, sometimes it's weeks and you just never know. So as always I hope for their sake it passes soon and they have some pretty new pearly whites to show off for all of their discomfort. We started using toddler tooth brushes yesterday and they are doing well with them; today went much better than yesterday. Using the finger toothbrush wasn't really working for them anymore and I can't say I blame them. Just like everything else the earlier they start something the sooner they become comfortable with it.

New Shoes and a New 'Do
This weekend we took the babies to get their first pair of real shoes! Up until now, they'd been wearing Bobux and Robeez, but it was time to get a big girl and big boy pair since they are both walking quite well now. It was actually a lot easier then I had expected it to be and we were in and out in maybe 45 minutes. There is a Stride Rite outlet in Gulfport which is about 20 minutes away from where we live so we loaded the babies up on Friday afternoon and headed over that way. Kathryn wears a size 5 1/2 wide and Owen wears a size 5 wide. They can blame me for the wide feet...I have Flinstone feet. Sorry about that kiddos, but wide or not your feet sure are cute!
On Saturday we took them to get their hair cut; it looks like hair cuts will be a monthly event. Jennifer, who cuts their hair, does such a good job and is patient and quick! Two things you must be if you cut toddlers hair. New shoes and haircuts were on my "To Do Before the Baby's Born" list and I'm glad I can cross them off. I still have many things left on that list to do, but I'm getting there...it's nice to make progress. This week the babies have their 12 month well-baby check up so I'll report back on Thursday. They'll be one day shy of turning 13 months old, but it's hard to get two babies in for back-to-back appointments and I have to take what I can get.
Maybe you've noticed, maybe you haven't but recently I haven't been able to make up my mind about our blog background. I'm thinking it has to do with my hormones and ever-changing moods. Ha! I am quite pleased with this one though and I think it'll be up for a while. Hope everyone out there has a great week!

This pretty much sums up their favorite activities lately. Owen's new hobby is climbing (everything!) and Kathryn loves to take her baby in and out of the stroller and push her around. We've been doing a lot of work with the baby doll lately in preparation for baby sister's arrival. They each know how to "love" and "kiss" the baby.
This is how you know it's nap time. Everyone starts rolling around on the floor with either their BeeBee or Panther.
Because this was too cute not to put up. I think he still gets excited he can now walk and he was squealing and smiling as I took this.

36 Week Update
The babies and I just got back from my 36 week appointment. Everything looks great and my c-section is scheduled for February 10th at 7:30am. We've known the date for a while, just not the time. Bruce and I are so happy to have a scheduled c-section this time. With the babies they told us to be there by 6:30am and they didn't wheel me back until 1:30 or so that afternoon. We wanted to meet them so badly and the wait was torture. I was also incredibly hungry and thirsty because I hadn't had anything since 11:00 the night before. Looks like there will be a lot less waiting this time - yay!
Since my appointment two weeks ago, I've gained two pounds which is right on track. My blood pressure was 114/68, baby's heart rate was 150, I'm measuring 37 weeks pregnant and the doctor was very pleased with everything overall. My legs and feet are just now starting to swell at the end of the day and my carpal tunnel is back. But after coping with all of that for 10 or 12 weeks with K and O, a mere three weeks to deal with such discomforts is nothing! Baby Sullivan is strong and a real mover - Bruce and I watch her move around in my belly at night after we put the babies to bed and she can really get herself into some funny positions. I'm glad she's having fun in there though. Guess that's all for now. Just another 21 days to go!

Happy Birthday Babies!
Happy birthday Owen and Kathryn! The babies are one year old...I just can't believe it! We celebrated the babies' birthday with lots of family and friends while we were home for Christmas. Their party was a success as no one cried, fell asleep or seemed too overwhelmed at the sight of all the party guests and gifts. We loved watching them take that first bite of cake...they didn't know what to think! Instead of smashing their cupcakes, Owen picked the whole thing up, took a bite and set it back down. Which is exactly what I told Bruce he would do...that's just his style. He picked at it a little more and I think ultimately decided he's not a sweets person. Kathryn played around with the icing dots on her cupcake and then once Bruce gave her a bite decided she did like it, but only enough to scrape the icing off with her fingers. In the end there was a lot of cupcake left and very little icing. It was a great day for our little family...we made it through the first year with twins! Bruce and I high-fived each other right after we put the babies to bed on their actual birthday. We did it!
This year has flown by and our little babies are now active, energetic toddlers. Bruce and I are thankful for our growing, healthy family and for all of the love, hugs, kisses and laughter the first year brought. Every parent knows that even when you are giving it your all and always trying to get it right, parenting can still have its challenges; especially when you are new parents to two babies. Bruce and I have learned so much this year as parents and as a couple; we've learned to take life one day at a time and enjoy each and every minute. Even those hard moments can be sweet moments. The things we worried about and stressed over at one point in time are now funny to us and we laugh because there were many days in the beginning where we just had no clue what was going on or what to do. But God continues to guide us every step of the way and while I know there will always be parenting challenges, this first year has taught me to: trust in God even when I think I can handle things on my own, to keep things in perspective and to remember that the health and happiness of my family is all I could really ever ask for. Everything else will take care of itself in due time.
Just in case I haven't mentioned it enough over the course of this last year...I love being a mommy! I love staying home with Kathryn and Owen and I can't wait for Sullivan to get here to join the fun. Being able to watch our babies grow, learn and change every day is such a gift. It's a joy to see Bruce as a daddy and how much the babies adore him. He is an amazing father and husband who always puts his family first and for that I fall more in love with him every day.
Happy birthday again sweetests! We love you so much! So now it's bye-bye bottles and baby food and hello second year. Here are the pictures from the babies' birthday party and first Christmas...there are lots of them, but such events call for lots of pictures.
